Dr Maria Lluch, Staff Scientist at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona and co-coordinator of the MycoSynVac project, has been awarded the 2016 Derrick Edward Award by the International Organisation for Mycoplasmology. Named in honour of the eminent D.G. Edward, this prestigious award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions to research in the field of mycoplasmology by young investigators entering the field.
Maria also starred the Derrick Edward Award Lecture at the 2016 21st IOM (International Organization for Mycoplasmology) Congress in Brisbane (Australia). The talk title “From Systems to Synthetic Biology: Mycoplasma pneumoniae as minimal chassis” took place on the July 4th and mainly deal with the use of Synthetic Biology for engineering a Mycoplasma pneumonia as a universal chassis for animal vaccination.
