The Congress of the Italian Federation of Life Sciences (FISV) took place at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy from 18 to 21 September 2018.
This edition covered a wide range of topics including biological clocks, the emergence of archaic and modern humans, epigenetic reprogramming, and mechanisms at the basis of inflammation of disease, oxidative stress in health and disease and genetic engineering in plants. A round table discussion took place on some of the most current aspects and societal implications of the Life Sciences.
FEBS National Lecturer Award
On 21 September during the congress, Luis Serrano, CRG director and Coordinator of the MycoSynVac project, received the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) National Lecturer award. The prize is awarded to a distinguished scientist with a significant international reputation for fundamental contributions to the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.
Dr Matteo Barberis introduced the FEBS National Lecturer award ceremony at the symposium on the third day, and the prize, an engraved glass award, was presented to Dr Serrano by the President of the Italian Society of Biochemistry (SIB), a FEBS Constituent Society, Professor Mauro Magnani.
